Arrowhead Alpine ends their regular season in style!
7 Feb by Todd Reineking
With extremely high winds, last night was a crazy end to our regular season! Our Varsity Boys and Varsity and JV Girls all took first place in last night's giant slalom and Heiliger Huegel. Our JV Girls Blue took second to our Red Team and our JV Boys did not have enough athletes to compete in the team division.
With last night's win, our girls won the MHSSC Conference Championship and our boys secured second place in conference. Our JV Girls Red Team also won the Conference Championship with an undefeated season. With their records, the JV Girls qualified for the JV Championship on Feb. 20th at Sunburst and both our Boys and Girls Varsity qualified for the State Championships in La Crosse next weekend.
CONGRATULATIONS to all our athletes on their dedication to improvement, their demonstrated commitment to their teammates and their season's results!
Last night's results produced several podium finishes for our team.
Top 5 finishes for our Varsity Girls included Megan Isabell in 5th, Kaitlyn Sonnemann in 4th, Annalyse Hower bending her skies for bronze and Landry Rebella going gonzo for gold!
Our JV Girls filled the podium with all top 5 spots! Stella! Huggett in 5th, Maddy Nelson in 4th, Ellie Roberts banking bronze, Brooke Hetherington streaking to silver, and Anna Shotola - the Shotola of Rock n’ Rolla grabbing gold again!
For the Boys, Top 5 finishes for Varsity included Jay Z, Josh Zirgibel in 4th, Braden the Patty Wagon Patterson brandishing bronze, Grayson Bruss sashaying to silver and Gus Wolf with back to back wins - going through the first finish line backwards for extra style points while grabbing that gold!
Top 5 finishes for our JV Boys was the Big O - Owen Knaus grabbing gold again to add to his collection!
Congratulations to all our racers for their efforts on the season. Complete Individual and Team Results have been posted under DOCUMENTS.
Special THANKS to all our hard-working parents who stepped up all year volunteering to work and also provided a taco dinner for the team.
Working the course last night included:
Abby Horn on top in the ripping wind as our Assistant Starter and cape wrangler, Nick Roberts, Ed Horn, Julie Hower and Jodi Patterson Gatekeeping, Stacie Payne on Timing, Beth Zirgibel with 100% collection on bibs, ALL THE PARENTS that brought food last night and JEN TALBOT for the organization of Senior Night festivities, all the decorations, ordering the fat heads, bib handout and lift ticket distribution and the 88 other things she does that she doesn’t even tell us about! Thank you!
Looking ahead – Sunday ‘s practice will be a slalom emphasis and Monday will be a giant slalom emphasis. All members of the team are welcome to join us as we prepare for the Championship part of the season.
Lastly, I wanted to thank Dr. Greg Rebella for his immediate response to an athlete from CMH last night that lost control and ended up in the trees. Dr. Rebella’s quick action brought calm to the chaos of a medical emergency and provided the necessary assessment and care to ensure that athletes safety. THANK YOU!
As always – if you have questions or concerns feel free to reach out to Jen Talbot or Coach Reineking. We appreciate all your work this season. TR
